Auckland & District Pipe Band held its 5th Annual Northcote Invitational Solo Contest at the Northcote Tavern on the 30th of December. The idea of the invitational is to catch a number of quality players on their way up to compete in the Waipu Highland Games on New Years Day. There was great prize money on offer thanks to sponsorship from a number of band members and supporters.
Six quality players were invited to compete in a double MSR and freestyle medley competition, with extra prize money up for grabs for the overall winner. We were fortunate to have last years Northcote Champion, Stuart Easton, adjudicating for us.
Liam Kernaghan took out the Northcote Championship title this year with excellent performances in both events. All competitors put on quality, enjoyable performances and provided a great afternoon’s entertainment for all that attended.
