The Auckland & District Pipe Band would like to announce the role of Pipe Major becomes available at the conclusion of the New Zealand National Championships in March, 2019. We now invite interested parties to contact the band to register their interest.
Incumbent Pipe Major Ben McLaughlin advised that this will be his last season in charge after 6 years in the role. He remains passionate about the band and 100% committed as a core playing member, noting other priorities now require the attention currently invested in leading the band.
The band is in great shape with a strong local playing base recently rejuvenated via the current leadership’s Development Pod system.
Last season represented one of the strongest campaigns of recent times with a Medley event win at the Palmerston North Square Day, 3rd in the MSR at the National Championships and a 5th place in the Medley Qualifier event at the 2017 World Championships (also gaining 2x 4ths in piping).
We envisage the successful applicant joining the band for at least the New Zealand National Championships in March, 2019 playing under the current leadership with a view to taking the reins from there.
– The successful applicant would need to live in Auckland when they commence as Pipe Major; and
– This is not a paid position and we are not offering relocation remuneration.
We have a number of members guest playing with Manawatu, NZ Police and Johnstone at this year’s World Pipe Band Championships, so if you would like to speak with any of them about this opportunity they will be in Scotland in August and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
This represents an extremely rare opportunity to become Pipe Major of a grade 1 band competing in one of the most competitive and closely fought scenes in the world. If you have ever aspired to lead a band this is that opportunity!
